File

What is File?

Provide a file as a course resource.

A file may also include supporting files.

E.g: an HTML file may have embedded images or Flash objects.

Note that students need to have the appropriate software on their computers to open the file, and that by default, single files will download to students' computers.

What is File for?

A file may be used to:

  • Distribute PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoints, spreadsheets, zip files, image, video, or audio files. Note: UMass Amherst IT recommends that you use searchable PDFs when adding course materials such as readings or handouts.

  • Share presentations given in class

  • Include a mini website as a course resource

  • Provide draft files of certain software programs (e.g., Photoshop .psd) so students can edit and submit them for assessment
